Petrichor Duo

Madison Deppe, flute • Patrick Anderson, guitar

"Petrichor" is the name for the smell of the earth after a rain, and to the duo also brings with it the sense of the deeply familiar, the innate connection to nature and home, a theme they have found and continue to explore with the traditional or folk-music undercurrent running through much of their repertoire.

Patrick and Madison met in Georgetown in 2022 and quickly found a shared enthusiasm for seeking out interesting and evocative repertoire across many genres and backgrounds outside of the typical Western classical cannon. They have enjoyed exploring musical traditions from around the world, and continue to adapt works to a flute-guitar format. They bring together extensive solo and chamber performance experiences, and have brought their diverse program to schools, libraries, art galleries, retirement homes, and chamber series across the GTA. They perform regularly at the Helson Gallery in Georgetown, and look forward performances and outreach across the province in the coming months.

Patrick Anderson is a guitarist with a diverse background in art music, folk, and popular styles. He has performed extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico as a soloist and chamber musician. He won first prize at the Mid-America Chamber Music competition and completed graduate performance studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles with musical luminaries Pepe Romero, Brian Head, Scott Tennant, William Kanengiser and others. As an educator, he has worked as an assistant professor of music at Cedarville University, and taught at the Master’s College, Westmont College, and University of Southern California. He currently serves as Worship Pastor at Living Hope Church in Georgetown.
